Integrated Stratigraphic framework for Eastern Beaufort Sea: North Slope Alaska

Recent discoveries in the Brookian sequences from the Eastern North Slope and the offshore OCS area has intensified exploration and the need for refined stratigraphic and provenance model for improved play fairway mapping.

Increased drilling activity in the eastern sector of the North Slope has stimulated a drive to better understand the geology of the area close to ANWR and in the offshore OCS area. Exploration is focused on Tertiary Brookian succession, but also the potential of Beaufortian and older Palaeozoic reservoirs.

Future Geoscience (a joint venture of PetroStrat Ltd and Hafren Scientific Ltd) propose a unique stratigraphic solution which can establish correlations between continental and marine facies belts based on the integration of quantitative biostratigraphy, chemostratigraphy and C-O isotope stratigraphy combined with E-log data.

In 2019, Future Geoscience will undertake a multi-disciplinary stratigraphic study on 5 wells(selected from the list below) located near to ANWR and in offshore OCS area.

The workflow will include quantitative biostratigraphy (including micropalaeontology, palynology and nannofossils) to provide a comprehensive stratigraphic solution. Furthermore, chemostratigraphy and C-isotope stratigraphic data will be acquired to provide independent stratigraphic and chronostratigraphic control. This data will also provide clients with an assessment of changes in sediment provenance and depositional facies, water depth and source rock potential.

This stratigraphic framework will be used to constrain subsequent high resolution forensic provenance investigations using zircon U/Pb dating
and RAMAN heavy mineral analysis

Location of candidate wells:

Alaska State No.1, Hammerhead Stinson-1, Aurora-01, Kuvlum Sourdough-2, Badami-1, Kic Well-1, Yukon Gold-1, Belcher, Point Thomson Unit-1, Warthog, Corona.

Delivery format:

Delivery will be in digital Spotfire, StrataBugs, WellCAD and IC format. Reports will be in digital pdf format.

Completion Q2/3 2019
